Walk into any perfumery and ask for a men's Versace, and you will almost certainly be handed two bottles: the turquoise Eros and the dark blue Dylan Blue. Both have been among the most-bought men's perfumes in Europe for years, yet they have almost nothing in common. One is sweet, loud and made for the night; the other clean, mineral and comfortable for every day. In this article we put them head to head – notes, longevity, season, age and occasion – so you can find out which of the two is really yours.
- Eros EDT is mint, green apple and sweet vanilla with tonka – the fragrance for going out, clubs and cold evenings.
- Dylan Blue is bergamot, grapefruit, fig leaves and plenty of ambroxan – fresh, clean and office-friendly.
- Eros projects more strongly and gets noticed more; Dylan Blue is more discreet but easy to wear all day.
- If you want one perfume for everything, Dylan Blue is the safer choice; if you are after compliments in the evening – Eros.
- Eros Flame, Eros EDP and the classic Pour Homme are logical alternatives from the same brand.
Two best-sellers, two different worlds
Eros was launched in 2012 and is the work of perfumer Aurélien Guichard. The name comes from the Greek god of love, and the bottle with the Medusa head and Greek key pattern leaves no doubt about the intention: seduction, without false modesty. The fragrance arrived just as sweet, vanilla-laced "aromatic fougères" were conquering men's perfumery, and it quickly became one of the most recognisable scents of clubs and bars.
Dylan Blue came four years later, in 2016, signed by Alberto Morillas – the creator of classics such as Acqua di Giò. Here the direction is the opposite: a modern "blue" fragrance built around citrus, aquatic notes and ambroxan – the molecule that gives that clean, slightly salty, skin-like effect familiar from the most popular fresh men's perfumes of the last decade.
In other words, Versace doesn't offer two variations on one idea, but two different philosophies. So choosing between them is rarely a question of "which is nicer", but rather of what kind of life you lead and what you want your fragrance to say about you. You can browse the whole range in the collection Versace men's perfumes.
Versace Eros EDT – mint, vanilla and nightlife
The first spray of Versace Eros EDT is icy-fresh: mint, green apple and lemon. This cold mint is the fragrance's signature and makes it recognisable from several metres away. After about half an hour the freshness gives way to the heart – tonka, ambroxan and geranium – and the base is warm and sweet: Madagascan vanilla, vetiver, oakmoss and cedar.
The result is a contrast between cold and warm that works exceptionally well in cool air. On skin, Eros is powerful: on most people it lasts 7–9 hours with a noticeable trail for the first few hours. That is exactly why younger men love it so much – it gets noticed.
When Eros is in its element
- Evenings out, clubs, parties and dates.
- Autumn and winter, when the sweetness unfolds without weighing heavily.
- Men aged roughly 18 to 35 who want a clear presence.
Dylan Blue – the freshness of ambroxan
Versace Dylan Blue EDT opens with Calabrian bergamot, grapefruit, aquatic notes and fig leaves. In the very first minutes you notice the green, slightly bitter freshness of fig leaf, backed by black pepper and violet leaves. The core of the fragrance, however, is ambroxan – clean, mineral, slightly salty and "skin-like" – while a base of patchouli, incense and musk adds depth and makes the dry-down more mature.
Dylan Blue isn't quiet, but it is polite. Its projection is moderate and its longevity around 6–8 hours, staying close to the skin in the final hours like a pleasant, clean cloud. That makes it one of the most versatile men's fragrances of all: it works at the office, on a date, on a summer afternoon and at dinner.
When Dylan Blue is the best choice
- Everyday wear, work, client meetings.
- Spring, summer and early autumn – the freshness doesn't "suffocate" in the heat.
- Men of any age who want a neat, modern, risk-free fragrance.

The verdict: which Versace for which man
Choose Eros if…
…you love sweet fragrances, often go out in the evening and want your perfume to be commented on. Eros is also an excellent first "serious" perfume for a young man who wants something bold. It is not ideal for hot summer days and small offices – there it can be too much.
Choose Dylan Blue if…
…you are looking for one perfume for every day, you work with people or you simply prefer clean to sweet. Dylan Blue is hard to get wrong – almost everyone likes it and it bothers no one. If you are buying a gift without knowing the person's taste well, it is the safer bet.
And why not both?
The two fragrances complement each other perfectly: Dylan Blue for the day and the warm months, Eros for evenings and winter. As both are among the more affordable designer perfumes, the combination is a sensible investment in a men's fragrance "wardrobe". See all versions in the collections Versace Eros and Versace Dylan.
Alternatives: Eros EDP, Eros Flame, Energy and Pour Homme
Eros EDP (2020) keeps the mint and apple but is denser and warmer, with more pronounced vanilla and a woody base. It suits men who find the EDT too "youthful" or feel it fades quickly in the cold.
Eros Flame (2018) is perhaps the most interesting member of the family. Instead of mint, it is led by bitter citrus (chinotto and mandarin), black pepper and rosemary, and the heart is spicy-rosy. The sweetness is more restrained, darker and spicier – a good compromise for men who like Eros but want something more mature. Browse Versace Eros Flame EDP.
Eros Energy (2024) is the freshest Eros – an explosion of lemon, lime, grapefruit and blood orange with pink pepper. It is interesting for summer if you love the line but not its sweetness.
Versace Pour Homme (2008) is the classic, elegant option: neroli, bergamot, lemon, rose and hyacinth over cedar and tonka. Quieter than Dylan Blue, but extremely refined and very well suited to the hot months and formal settings.
The women's counterparts
Both lines have women's versions that couples often buy "as a pair". Eros Pour Femme is citrus-floral, with lemon, pomegranate, jasmine and peony – brighter and more elegant than its male sibling suggests. Dylan Blue Pour Femme is fruity-floral: Granny Smith apple, blackcurrant, peach, rose and jasmine over a musky base – fresh, feminine and easy to wear every day.

Frequently asked questions
Which lasts longer – Versace Eros or Dylan Blue?
Eros EDT usually lasts longer and has a stronger trail. Dylan Blue is more moderate, but it also lasts a full working day, especially when applied to hydrated skin.
Which Versace is the blue one – Eros or Dylan Blue?
Both come in blue bottles, which often causes confusion. Eros is in turquoise-blue glass with a gold Medusa, Dylan Blue in dark, almost ink-blue glass. If you are looking for "the fresh blue Versace" for every day, it is Dylan Blue.
What is the difference between Versace Eros EDT and EDP?
The EDT is fresher, mintier and a little louder at the start. The EDP is warmer, denser and more vanilla-rich, with a more velvety development – better suited to winter and to more mature men.
Is Eros suitable for the office?
With one or two sprays – yes, especially in winter. In small rooms and in summer, however, Dylan Blue or Pour Homme are more appropriate.
