The story of the gold bar
In the mid-2000s Paco Rabanne was looking for a fragrance that would speak to a new generation of men – confident, a little daring and unashamed to show their success. The answer was 1 Million, created by three perfumers – Christophe Raynaud, Olivier Pescheux and Michel Girard – and presented in a bottle that is literally a gold bar. The idea was almost provocative, but it worked: the fragrance quickly became one of the bestselling men's perfumes in the world.
In 2023 the brand officially shortened its name to Rabanne, so that is what you will see on the new bottles. The fragrances, however, remain the same, and in conversation people still say "Paco Rabanne 1 Million" or simply "One Million". The whole family is gathered in the collection Rabanne 1 Million and Lady Million.
The 1 Million men's perfume: the original up close
1 Million Eau de Toilette opens with a bright, slightly bitter accord of blood mandarin, grapefruit and mint. After a few minutes the heart reveals cinnamon, spicy notes and rose, and the base is what everyone recognises it by – sweet leather, amber, woody notes and patchouli. The result is a warm, spicy and slightly gourmand fragrance that fills the room.
Longevity is good for an Eau de Toilette, and the trail is noticeable in the first hours. That is precisely why 1 Million is not a fragrance for summer heat or a small office: there it easily becomes too much. It shines on cool evenings, at parties and out on the town. 1 Million Parfum – leather, salt and amber
Here the sweetness of the original gives way to a drier, more mature profile. The pyramid has sea salt, cardamom and pink pepper, a surprisingly soft floral heart with tuberose and monoi oil, and a base of leather, ambergris and cashmeran. The fragrance is more refined and richer, projects closer to the skin and also suits more formal occasions.
1 Million Elixir Intense – the dessert
The richest and sweetest interpretation. Apple and davana at the start, Damask rose and osmanthus in the heart, and at the base vanilla absolute, tonka and patchouli. Elixir is ideal for winter evenings and for men who love gourmand fragrances with character. Here literally one or two sprays are enough.
1 Million Royal – the fresh crown
Royal is the most aromatic and cleanest member of the family: cardamom, mandarin and bergamot on top, lavender, sage and violet leaf in the heart and benzoin with cedar in the base. It sounds modern, fresher and more versatile than the original – a convenient choice for the office and year-round wear.
1 Million Lucky – the hazelnut
Lucky is one of the line's best-liked flankers. Plum, ozonic notes, grapefruit and bergamot create a fresh opening, while a heart of hazelnut and honey gives it a soft, almost patisserie-like but not heavy character. A base of cedar and cashmere wood makes it suitable for spring and early autumn.
Million Gold – the new generation
The Million Gold line is the newer, more refined take on the idea of the "golden" men's fragrance. Million Gold Intense combines blood mandarin, cardamom, black pepper and saffron with rose absolute, neroli and white leather – more elegant and less sweet than the classic 1 Million.

Paco Rabanne 1 Million for women: Lady Million and Million Gold For Her
Lady Million – the honeyed classic
Two years after the men's fragrance, in 2010, Lady Million appeared – in a bottle inspired by a cut diamond. Created by Anne Flipo, Béatrice Piquet and Dominique Ropion, it is a floral-honey fragrance with neroli, lemon and raspberry at the start, sambac jasmine, orange blossom and gardenia in the heart and white honey with patchouli in the base. Sweet, radiant and confident – the true other half of 1 Million.
Lady Million Royal
A more modern and creamier version: pomegranate and mandarin on top, orange blossom, jasmine and tuberose in the heart and cashmere wood, musk and vanilla in the base. Softer than the classic Lady Million and suitable for everyday wear.
Million Gold For Her
The women's fragrance from the new Million Gold line is floral and elegant, with rose and jasmine at the centre and a soft musky-vanilla base. The Le Parfum version is richer and sunnier, with citrus, ylang-ylang and sandalwood. If Lady Million seems too sweet to you, Million Gold For Her is the more refined alternative.
